Patrice Evra has never been so cup set after once
again blowing a chance to win the FA Cup.
The French defender has lifted every
other trophy in English football during his seven-year stay but his collection
is still missing a medal from the world-famous competition.
Manchester United was knocked out by
Chelsea yesterday, meaning their hopes of a league and cup Double are over.
Evra said: “It’s a massive
disappointment for us.
“We didn’t expect to lose and we
really wanted to win the Double.
“A lot of players, including myself,
haven’t won the FA Cup and it was an important trophy for us.”
Evra reckons United will look back
to the two-goal lead they threw away in the original meeting with the Blues at
Old Trafford last month as to why they exited the competition.
He said: “I think we lost the tie in
the first match.
“We have to be realistic with
ourselves — we gave the first game away.
“We were winning 2-0, they came back
from 2-0 down and we drew 2-2. After that we had another chance to win at
Stamford Bridge but Chelsea deserved to go through.”
Demba Ba’s wonderstrike proved the
difference between the two sides in yesterday’s clash and Evra was quick to
congratulate the Senegalese ace.
The Frenchman added: “He did it when
we played Newcastle away last season.
“He showed great technique and I
don’t think David De Gea could have saved it. Well done to Demba Ba because
it’s a great goal.”
