MANCHESTER CITY put Alex Ferguson’s
title bubbly on ice with a stunning victory at Old Trafford.
Sergio Aguero’s
78th-minute winner cut United’s lead at the top to 12 points.
And boss Roberto Mancini
insists his boys will beat their neighbours to the title next year.
He said: “We deserved to
win and know we can win the title next year.
This year we made some
mistakes but now we can do nothing — the season is gone.
“What is important is we
win some games between now and the end, then for next season we have two or
three months where we can work to improve.
Mancini: Injuries cost us in title
defence
MAN CITY boss says
crocked key players meant they failed to show the form they displayed in derby
“We showed tonight we
should not be 15 points behind.
“United lost their last
game against Norwich in November and deserve to win this title.
“The title race is
finished but it is important for us because it can help us for second
position.”
United chief Ferguson
said: “It was intense and committed from both teams.
“We played good football
and controlled the game in the second half.
“We have to look at
ourselves in terms of the goals. We know Aguero is a fantastic finisher, that
is what they brought him on for. We gave him a lot of room for the goal.
“The first goal, Tevez
was interfering with play. He was clearly in the road of the goalkeeper. If
that is not interference, then I don’t know what is.
“It’s a shame as you
always want to win your local derby.”
There are still 21
points to play for and Fergie added: “It’s a healthy lead but we’re not taking
anything for granted.”
City went ahead in the
51st minute after Ryan Giggs’ blunder helped set up James Milner.
United were level eight
minutes later when Phil Jones’ header went in off Vincent Kompany’s back.
Aguero scored a superb
winner when he powered into the box and fired the ball into the roof of the
net.
