Six matches at
football's Confederations Cup have been sold out including Saturday's opener
between hosts Brazil and Japan and the host team's two other groups matches
against Mexico and Italy.
By early Saturday,
740 732 tickets had been sold for the June 15-30 tournament, with some
120 000 still available, world governing body Fifa said.
The six games sold out
also include the final and the matches on Sunday between Mexico and Italy at
the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, and between world and European
champions Spain and Uruguay in Recife.
Ticket sales are
already a record for a Confederations Cup and far exceed the around
200 000 sold at the tournament in South Africa four years ago.
The least demand so
far is for the encounter between minnows Tahiti and African champions Nigeria
on Monday in Belo Horizonte where 36 000 tickets are still unsold in the
62 547-capacity Estadio Mineirao.
Some 20 000
tickets are also available for the match between Nigeria and Uruguay in
Salvador on Thursday.
Fifa has been urging
fans to collect their pre-ordered tickets in good time from ticket centers
rather than wait until the day of the match.
Tickets will not be
available at stadiums on match days as is customary in Brazil and local fans
have been slow to collect tickets. Around 15 000 tickets are still to be
picked up for Sunday's game in Rio between Mexico and Italy.
