Africa Nations Championship Preliminaries
Tanzania v Uganda July 13
World Cup qualifier
Senegal v Uganda
Sept 6Veteran midfielder Hakim Magumba has been left
out of Uganda’s squad for the Africa Championships (CHAN) qualifiers due in a
fortnight.
Uganda is aiming for a second appearance at
the biennial tournament, which attracts players that take part in domestic
league.
Magumba was at his peak with Sports Club Villa
over a decade ago.
CHAN training was initially scheduled to start
last week but was extended to today because coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic
had not returned from holiday.
The Serbian tactician took a break in Europe
after leading the Cranes to two home wins over Liberia and Angola in the 2014
World Cup qualifying series.
FUFA Super league champions KCC, with nine
players, have the lion’s share of the CHAN squad that will be training at
Namboole.
Determined to make the best of CHAN and the
World Cup qualifiers, FUFA is looking forward to friendlies.
FUFA’s requests have gone to Iraq, Burundi,
Rwanda, Sudan and Ethiopia.
After CHAN game, Uganda will be looking to
their makeor-break World Cup qualifier against Senegal on a neutral ground.
The match was shifted to a neutral ground
after crowd violence in Dakar. This was during a game between Senegal and Ivory
Coast.
In a technical meeting of all super league
coaches at FUFA House on Friday, Martin Olungat, Mathias Kigonya, Sunday
Mukiibi, Ismail Kazibwe, Patrick Muwanga and Hakim Magumba were dropped from
the CHAN squad.
Ismail Watenga, Savio Kawoya and Musa Malunda
were brought in as the squad was reduced to 37 players.
